In the Fall of 2004, my brothers and I placed our northern California ranch on the market. It was difficult to sell a property that had been in my family more than 50 years. The ranch is a place of special beauty as well as a storehouse of family memories. My hope for the property was that it would be preserved in its natural state and enjoyed by others as it had been enjoyed by my family.
The Stillwater principals, Chris Allen and Peter Adams, contacted me through my realtor. They wanted to introduce themselves, describe their business plan and discuss their interest in the property. I agreed to meet with them, but I was suspicious and prepared to be confronted by high-pressure businessmen. |
