Stillwater Development

Nelson Ranch, Grenada, California

A Fishery Restoration Project on the Shasta River

In September 2004, Stillwater entered into a purchase agreement with the owners of a 1,700-acre ranch in the Shasta Valley in Northern California. Near the geographic heart of the valley, the ranch is bounded on the south and east by nearly five miles of the Shasta River and has stunning views of one of California's highest mountains, Mt. Shasta. California Trout and other leading conservation organizations have identified the Shasta River, at this location, as a top priority for protecting and restoring the greater Klamath Basin watershed, which holds federally listed and endangered Coho salmon. Stillwater maintains excellent relations with these groups and, working together with them, created an opportunity to enhance this critical watershed by coordinating the sale of Nelson Ranch to The Nature Conservancy.
